Part of a photographer’s bliss is getting to spend time in the light of other people’s happiness. We step in, take only fragments of memories, and retreat with humble satisfaction and warmth in our hearts. Now and then we get to hear back from clients (whom at this point we now consider friends, comrades, and sometimes family), which is like finding an unexpected box of cookies on your doorstep at the end of a long day. (Sidenote.. When are doorstep cookies expected? If you are the type to expect cookies, let me know your secret.)

Jessica and Brian had an absolutely magical day last summer and I got to be there for every smile, every tear, and every laugh. Thank you for letting me into your world for a day, and having the kindness to leave behind some beautiful words of thanks.

“I put a lot of thought into my wedding photographer. My now-husband and I are both designers/artists so this was one of the most important decisions to us. We knew that regardless of what food we ate, the dress I wore, or the music we played, we want to remember it forever. We needed a photographer who not only took photos of our wedding, but captured the emotions of the day. In 20 years, I want to remember the laughs we had while getting ready, the tear in my father’s eye as he linked his arm in mine to walk me down the aisle, the look on my husband’s face when I walked in the chapel, the love we shared during our first first kiss, and every beautiful moment that I may have overlooked during a very busy and fast day.

Everyone will say this, but I didn’t realize how right they were until my wedding – the day goes by SO fast. I’m glad I found someone who took stunning photos so I could sit and remember every bit that flew by too quickly. That was exactly what I was looking for, and Hilary was exactly what I needed.” -Jessica Senchak

Considering it is officially spring, I thought I’d get my last winter-themed shoot out and about (granted it did snow yesterday. We aren’t far off from this just yet!) and this particular one was just so snowy and wonderful I’m having a nice feeling about winter’s send off. No hard feelings.

Looking forward to Danielle & Cody’s wedding this fall; I’m booked for several fall weekends and I couldn’t be happier. My favourite time of year just got even better.

These two little munchkins charmed their way into my heart one snowy day last month. Baby Xayden is a strong, zealous little man with an exceptionally spectacular head of hair. His cohort, Rylei, is by far the most mature 3 year old I have ever crossed paths with! Ms. Rylei was not shy to let me know when she was done with her close up, but had an amazing affinity for posing alone and with her brand new baby brother. Not to mention, she loves the colour orange; that’s just good business in my books. Parents Kristy and Xeon have their hands full with these two; full of light, laughter, and a loads of no-nonsense love.

I’m so saddened to note that since our session, Kristy and Xeon have lost a member of their canine troupe; Domi is shining down on us and will always be an integral part of your beautiful family.

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family.  Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.

Say hello to the two most hilarious, handsome fellows I’ve met in a long time. Ryder, a one-month-old with an astonishingly strong stare, and his older brother Grayson charmed the pants off me a few weeks back and I’m so happy to get to share their family and baby session. Ryder did so well hanging out with me in front of the camera, and our session definitely veered into The Grayson Show more than once. I cannot stress what a hilariously phenomenal time I had with this beautiful family; take a peek for yourself.

For those of you who make it to the end of this photoset, I have to say.. Do you know when you get that feeling of balance, that feeling of “this is right”? Well, this is right. This is what I am supposed to do. I can’t say why or how I feel this way, but I do know that when I’m in the middle of a baby session, when those tiny eyes are staring through my lens into my fair-weather little heart… I’m home. So, thank you to those families who have let me experience the absolute joyful feeling of balance, of right. It’s about time.

There are some people you keep around in your life, in your back pocket when you don’t see face to face and barely speak outside a quick “It’s been so long!” on Facebook Chat. As it happens, some of these people are well worth the pocket space and small talk. From awkward braces/glasses combos to nervous bus rides and some brutal, brutal MSN conversations I hope to never see again, somehow we’ve made it to the other side and manage to reconnect when the timing is just right. I feel like this character knows me inside and out, good ways and bad, never failing to lend an ear to my somewhat trivial trials and tribulations of life. I had an absolutely hilarious time taking a ‘few’ portraits of Ian, a friend of many many years and hopefully many years to come.
